Embracing YOUR body is SO important. As a boudoir photographer I get asked these two questions all the time.
What I want to make clear today is the importance of embracing your body. As a photographer of women I photograph EVERY body. If you are a woman and you have a body then I will happily photograph you and highlight your best features and accentuate YOU in the most gorgeous light.
Our bodies and how society judges them have changed so much over time. While the world itself is less stigmatizing of “thin” bodies these days, it’s important to remember that all of us have felt “less than” or “undesirable” at times. It might surprise people that thin women feel inadequate as well as they are judged by their sizes and shapes too. Your space can be invaded as people poke at your ribs and lift you up to see how light you are. But you’re told that your insecurities are ridiculous and you should be grateful. People say things like “Real Women Have Curves” and to the ladies who don’t, I see you. You are a real woman.
So do I photograph women without curves? Yes absolutely. Your body is YOURS and the purpose of a boudoir session is to celebrate everything your body has carried you through.
Plus size women also deal with unsolicited advice as their told what to wear and how to wear it to hide their curves. So you hide behind a large sweater or bulky clothing and have such a difficult time embracing your body. But little do you know that hiding behind all of these layers is only covering up your beauty. You fear that nobody wants to see any extra weight so you hide it as much as possible.
But your body too deserves to be celebrated. Do I photograph plus size women? Absolutely!
Whether you are a size 2 or a size 20 or anywhere in between or nowhere in sight, your body is yours. It’s beautiful. It has brought you through so much. The misconception with a boudoir session is that it’s all about getting sexy photos to give to your partner. And although that is an amazing reason to do a boudoir session, it’s not the only reason.
The main reason I photograph boudoir exclusively is to allow women that reconnection time to celebrate their bodies. The odd thing about society these days is that we constantly think we need to comment on other people’s bodies. But what I’ll say again and again is that your body is YOURS. For many of us no matter how hard we try we’re not going to fit into society’s box of what a “perfect” body should be. And even if we do get there once we are there there’s still going to be something we’re unhappy about. So the moral of the story is that embracing your body RIGHT NOW is SO important! It’s the only body you have so please treat it with respect and love.
I’ll end my little rant today with this quote that one of my beautiful clients from one of my Love The Skin You’re In Sessions posted as a caption on one of her photos from our session together.
“And i said to my body. softly. ‘I want to be your friend.’ It took a long breath, and replied ‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.”

Born and raised in Washington State, I know the Pacific Northwest like the back of my hand. As a luxury boudoir photographer, my mission is simple: to reach as many women as I can and show them just how incredible they already are. This experience is about so much more than beautiful photos - it's a chance to see yourself through the eyes of those who love you, and to truly reconnect with the woman you are.
Since founding Boudoir Photography by Amber Carl in 2020, I've had the privilege of photographing countless women and couples, each experience as unique as the person in front of the lens. The greatest compliment I receive is how comfortable my clients feel with me. This is an intimate journey, and my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can let your true self shine.
Take a look at my work and reach out - I'd love to help you experience the confidence and self love you deserve.
