When you first set out to reconnect with your partner on a deeper level, the mere idea of it might keep you up at night. You school through picture perfect couples on social media and start wondering – why do we feel more like roomates than lovers lately? Are we missing some magic relationship reset button? Enter my Hawaii Coupples Retreat.
Because chances are, there’s no secret ingredient. It’s just that some couples have already taken the time to pause, reflect, and reconnect – often with the help pof something like a retreat.
So in this post I’m going to help pyou shake off that “we’re too busy” or “maybe someday” mindset and start feeling confident about saying yes to the kind of connection you both deserve.
I’m breaking down 9 surprisingly powerful strategies to revive your relationship – without awkward therapy sessions or overwhelm.
Make sure you read to the end – there’s a bonus strategy that just might be the most important one of all.
If you want to feel truly connected again, the idea that you need to wait until work slows down or the kids are older is a trap. Instead, you have to make the time.
This is #1 on the list because too many couples spend years putting their relationship on the back burner. But disconnection doesn’t fix itself.
Be careful not to wait too long. When you keep putting off intentional time together, the emotional distance can grow.
Instead, prioritize each other now. One of the best ways? A dedicated getaway like my Hawaii Coupples Retreat.
For example, the couples who attend my retreats don’t wait until things are “bad.” They come because they want to be present again. They crave laughter, touch, eye contact – and leave more in love than when they arrived.
You don’t need to suffer silently or feel guilty for wanting more connection.
This doesn’t mean you can’t lean on each other during hard seasons, but powering through without replenishment leads to resentment.
Instead, choose reest and reconnection. That might look like saying yes to a Hawaii couples retreat that gives you space to reset.
Watch this short video from one of my past retreats to see how this experience can help you feel like a team again.
This is from my Hawaii Women’s Retreat but you can see that even a few days away together – without distractions – can shift everything.
Before you jump into couples counseling or another big effort, start with something simple: dedicated, unninterrupted time.
That’s why retreats are so powerful – they remove the everyday noise and help you see each other clearly again.
If you’re serious about deepening your connection, you have to create space for it.
My Hawaii Couples Retreat gives you the gift of time – something most relationships desperately need.
Regardless of what your relationship looks like now, showing up with your full attention is always the right move.
If you take the time to be fully present – to listen, touch, share, you’ll both feel seen again. And from there, so much healing happens.
Pro tip: Leave your phones in the room for an hour a day. Just be together.
For example: Just watching the sunrise together hand in hand without speaking can be the biggest shift Just feeling togetherness.
It’s easy to feel like you should know how to fix things on your own. But most of us were never taught how to tend to a relationship with intention.
When you’re stuck, don’t stay there.
So if you’re struggling to reconnect, feel more like teammates than lovers, or just crave more fun again – it maybe time to reach out to someone like me.
I host immersive couples retreats that combine play, rest, and guidance – all designed to bring you back to each other.

Have you seen the Gottman Card Decks? It’s a free app filled with powerful conversation starters, intimacy questions, and relationship building activities.
We use it during my retreat during our slow morning coffee chats and beachside evening talks.
Every time a deeper convo is needed, we pull a card. After a journaling session or couples photoshoot, we use it to share what we’re noticing about each other. And sometimes, we just use it for laughs – which is connection too.
There are other tools out there, but this one’s simple and so powerful.
Most people will tell you to plan a weekly date night. And that’s lovely – but it doesn’t always create emotional closeness.
At my retreats, we use what I call the Reconnect Ritual – a short guided practice where you sit face to face, breathe together, and answer a few heart centered questions.
It’s quiet, vulnerable, and beautiful.
Once we started doing this in every couple’s session, I watched the atmosphere of the room shift. Couples softened. They reached out for each other more.
The ritual is part of every Hawaii couples retreat I lead – and I now use it in my couples boudoir photo sessions as well.

Born and raised in Washington State, I know the Pacific Northwest like the back of my hand. As a luxury boudoir photographer, my mission is simple: to reach as many women as I can and show them just how incredible they already are. This experience is about so much more than beautiful photos - it's a chance to see yourself through the eyes of those who love you, and to truly reconnect with the woman you are.
Since founding Boudoir Photography by Amber Carl in 2020, I've had the privilege of photographing countless women and couples, each experience as unique as the person in front of the lens. The greatest compliment I receive is how comfortable my clients feel with me. This is an intimate journey, and my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can let your true self shine.
Take a look at my work and reach out - I'd love to help you experience the confidence and self love you deserve.
