There’s many reasons why photos are important but today I’m sharing with you the number one reason in my opinion.
What is the first thing you usually look for after someone has passed away? If you said a picture of them then you’re correct. Memories last only so long and then after some time those memories start to fade. When we pull out a photo of someone who is no longer with us then it pulls out those memories even deeper. It takes us back to that moment in the photo. And it allows us to feel as if we are with our loved ones again, even if for just a moment.
Last summer Mary and Chris did a couples water boudoir session with me. They are active in Renaissance Fairs and have so many amazing outfits that they would wear together when attending. They wanted to make this session true to them as a couple and celebrate what they love and enjoy together.
The session itself was interesting because truth be told we had some young boys who kept bothering us. But eventually we found a secluded spot that the boys couldn’t really get to or see which allowed this beautiful session to unfold.
But this right here is why photos are important. Tragically last November Chris was shot and killed. As you can imagine all of it was completely unexpected as Mary and Chris were shopping together and came upon some people trying to break into their car. They were both shot but Chris died at the scene.
A normal day, normal plans, just like every other day. Little did either of them know that this is how the day would end.
I know that Mary looks back on these photos because she has told me before how happy she is that they did this photo session. And I’m happy they did too. Photos are SO important. She has the opportunity now to look at these and of course be sad but also to be brought back to that moment in time with Chris. To reminisce on their lives together. And to show other people who her husband was and what an amazing man he was.

Born and raised in Washington State, I know the Pacific Northwest like the back of my hand. As a luxury boudoir photographer, my mission is simple: to reach as many women as I can and show them just how incredible they already are. This experience is about so much more than beautiful photos - it's a chance to see yourself through the eyes of those who love you, and to truly reconnect with the woman you are.
Since founding Boudoir Photography by Amber Carl in 2020, I've had the privilege of photographing countless women and couples, each experience as unique as the person in front of the lens. The greatest compliment I receive is how comfortable my clients feel with me. This is an intimate journey, and my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can let your true self shine.
