Having confidence while on camera can sometimes be difficult. Deer in headlights. During the first few minutes of a boudoir session that’s what many of us may feel like. Making eye contact can be difficult, especially when there’s a camera in between you and the other person. But what is it about eye contact and relaxing our face so we have confidence on camera that makes us feel so anxious? And what does it mean for our confidence?

Confidence on Camera in Boudoir Photography

Something about boudoir photography is the fact that it’s not all about how the person looks, but how they look back at you. We communicate with such a visual, emotional tone and it has an incredible impact on the intimacy of your boudoir photography story. This all means lighting, posing, body language, and eye contact. It might seem like a small thing but powerful body language and authentic eye contact can take a boudoir photo from good to powerful. So what is it about eye contact that’s so powerful? And how do you make sure you’re doing it right?

All the looks, and it’s all in the eyes

The smize, the bedroom eyes…whatever you want to call it making eye contact is one of the easiest things you can do to show your confidence. The eyes tells us so much about who a person is and there’s always an incredible story behind them. The eyes are the window to the soul, you’ve heard the quote before. And it’s true. When I’m photographing someone no matter how I have them posed or moving, the eyes are always the main focus. The eyes are the key to having that confidence on camera.

There’s that fun playful look when you meet someone’s eyes. There’s the sexy bedroom eyes. There’s the fun, little look away and look back. It all tells a story and if you come into your boudoir session not feeling so confident don’t worry. As we’re going through your posing and once I get you set up for the camera, if you’re still feeling not quite sure what to do with your face I’ve got you. First we’ll work on the eyes and I’ll give you some tips to try. Sometimes I’ll even come up with a scenario for you to put yourself in. Your partner just returned home from work and you’re ready and waiting in this sexy lingerie you’re wearing. Or I ask you to envision your celebrity crush is standing right in front of you. What face would you make to show them that they need you right now?

Are you feeling confident yet?

When it comes to exuding confidence in front of the camera I’m there to help you. Once we have the eyes down it’s simple things like open your lips just a bit, take a slow deep breath in as you look intently at the camera, give me a little smile. Lift your chin but look slightly down. And you’ve got this! It’s definitely not your job to be a model during your boudoir session. But it’s my job to help you feel like one.

Washington state boudoir photographer

Born and raised in Washington State, I know the Pacific Northwest like the back of my hand. As a luxury boudoir photographer, my mission is simple: to reach as many women as I can and show them just how incredible they already are. This experience is about so much more than beautiful photos - it's a chance to see yourself through the eyes of those who love you, and to truly reconnect with the woman you are.
Since founding Boudoir Photography by Amber Carl in 2020, I've had the privilege of photographing countless women and couples, each experience as unique as the person in front of the lens. The greatest compliment I receive is how comfortable my clients feel with me. This is an intimate journey, and my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can let your true self shine.
Take a look at my work and reach out - I'd love to help you experience the confidence and self love you deserve.
